Golf News and Updates I am thrilled to be the new Golf Course Superintendent at Saginaw Country Club. Thank you to everyone that has went out of their way to welcome me to Saginaw Country Club. Prior to this position I was the Golf Course Superintendent at Bird Creek Golf Club for the past 2 years, and First Assistant Superintendent at Tournament Players Club of Michigan for 5 years before that. My wife Adrienne, son Kellen (2 years old), and daughter (on the way) are all excited to make the move into the Saginaw Valley. What We Have Been Working OnThe golf season is right around the corner, and though it is cold outside, the preparations for the coming season are in full swing. Soil testing of Greens, Tees, and Fairways has been performed to help me get a grasp on the fertility and soil characteristics of your Golf Course. This information will help me develop a chemical and fertility program with an emphasis on growing healthy turf with strong roots. Fungicide was applied to the greens in January in an effort to limit turf damage from snow mold. What We Will Be Working On Our first objective when the snow melts will be cleaning the golf course. The golf course debris clean up will concentrate on Greens, Tees, Fairways, Bunkers and Rough in that order. There is a large amount of wet leaves and branches that need to be raked and disposed of as soon as possible. Our goal is to have the golf course completely free of debris before the middle of April. Our goal is to provide consistent playing conditions on a daily basis with an emphasis on attention to detail. I believe that attention to detail is what separates the good golf courses from the great ones like Saginaw Country Club. Please feel free to contact me at 793-2270 if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting everyone throughout the season. Respectfully, Rob Steger Golf Course Superintendent |
